Common sense says that to have more energy you should exercise more and eat well.  Well that certainly works but there are more ways to get energy.

In my last post. I detailed  the energy equation which states your Energy is equal to you Peak Physical Energy less Stress.  That gives 2 components of Energy Increasing Peak Physical Energy and reducing Stress.

Taking a bit more effort is increasing physical Energy.  Here are the main factors:

  1. Exercise:  There is a plethora of advice about exercising, how much and what is good for you but generally if you exercise regularly you will have more energy.  A good mixture of cardiovascular training, weights and stretching (Yoga or plain stretching) is recommended.  Personally I exercise once a week and could do more but i’m happy with my level of fitness.
  2. Adequate Sleep:  Giving your body adequate rest allows your body to recover and rejuvenate itself.  You can push the envelope here and increase the effectiveness of your sleep while reducing the amount you sleep you need but for now 6-8 hours of sleep is enough
  3. Food and nutrition:  There is a huge wealth of advice on food and I’m not an expert on this so I won’t cover this in depth here.  I’ve found what worked for me by seeking out a nutritionist and I’d recommend this to gain the right nutritional advice for you.
  4. Blood Sugar balancing:  The main thing is to avoid dips in energy by ensuring that you have balanced blood sugar levels.  Too often busy office workers will have quick sugar fix foods which release a lot of energy but then bring you into an energy slump.  Foods to avoid are, any white carbohydrates like sugar, bread, white rice and potatoes.  Replace these with slow burn carbohydrates: brown rice, oats, quinoa and other whole foods.
  5. Emotion:  When you are excited and passionate about something you’ll find you’ll have more energy.  Your body releases endorphins which make you feel good and more energetic.  You’ve probably experienced this before.

So by sleeping well and ensuring you are excited about life will ensure you increase your physical energy.  Not too taxing.  However avoiding getting stressed out will increase your energy levels also.  By reducing stress  you can tap into your existing energy right now without having to exercise to increase your energy.

So not too difficult You just sit down and relax.  That’s right do absolutely nothing but relax.  Well not quite.  To relax effectively takes some good breathing techniques and/or meditation.  If you practitice yoga or meditatation you’ll be familiar with these techniques.

If you’re not so hot on meditation I created a guided energy process.  Basically it teaches you the right breathing techniques and uses the power of your imagination to increase your energy.  This can be done in only 15 minutes.  After a 2-3  weeks of practice you should be able to increase your energy at will without the recording.
